Last night was the big recital night. Yesterday she had dress rehearsal at 9:00 in the morning. We found out some awesome news at the dress rehearsal. After the opening act, her class was the first one to perform. SCORE. Yes, we are totally that family that leaves after our kid dances. Given the fact that the recital was delayed because of a major accident on one of the major highways leading to the performance hall, and if we would have stayed for the entire recital we wouldn't have been out of there until 9:30 or 10:00, we high tailed it out there.
Also, this year I actually got to watch the opening act and one performance after Payton's dance. I thought it would be rude if I just immediately jumped up and went to get her. Therefore, I sat through one performance and then left. I then texted Derek to let him know I had her, and after the next dance finished Derek, Granny Camille, Grandpat, and Addison all got up and met us.
Okay..... back to Payton's actual dance. First of all, she could care less about the recital once Addison arrived. All she wanted to do was play with her. Here they are backstage.
That look pretty much sums up how happy Payton was that Addison was there. Payton performed to Somewhere Out There. The kids actually did awesome. They ALL danced, and they all danced together for the most part doing actual ballet moves. I was a proud Momma. There were two moves in the dance that required them to run around and get back into their spot. It was entertaining to watch because they all looked confused before they just ran back to their spots. We also joke that Payton had the "lead" in the dance. This is because one of the moves required the girls to hold hands and form two parallel lines. It may be because their is an odd number of girls in the class, and not because she is the prima ballerina, that she got to run in between them to the center of the stage and plié before they all run back to their spots again. She nailed it.
Here she is after the performance. I know this is not a great picture, but it captures the madness of taking pictures afterwords and Payton's expression of "I am so over this!"

The look on her face in the picture with Addison is precious. She is looking at her with complete adoration!
I'm glad the recital was a success. And we were also those parents that left after M performed (but she was number 38 so I didn't feel bad).
