I would like to start off by saying, I love winter. I don't mind the cold. I also don't mind a beautiful snowfall like we had last Christmas. However, I do mind the timing of such weather events and ice. First of all, anytime there is a major weather event the local news just kills me. I don't think we need a reporter standing by every single highway in the county pointing at the thickness of the ice on a guardrail. Also, whenever the first weather event comes they seem to over react just a little in my opinion. The last time this happened, was the weekend my good friend Ashley came up from San Antonio. Yes, it was cold. However, we were planning on meeting her Sunday before the nasty weather rolled in on Sunday evening. Then I woke up Sunday morning and all the weather stations said it was going to hit us around ten that morning. The roads were going to be icy and all hell was going to happen. Needless to say, I cancelled with Ashley out of fear of being trapped on a highway with Payton. But you know what???? It never happened. We never reached the critical freezing temperature for ice. Therefore, I missed out on seeing my good friend.
Now we are hunkering down for another arctic blast. This time I think it is the real deal. The only problem.... we have major plans again this weekend. Derek is running in the marathon and we booked the Anatole in Dallas to stay the night and take Payton to Sparkle. We had until 12:00 last night to cancel the reservation. We went back in forth. It looks like the sleet/ice will stop on Friday night, but we are not expected to go above freezing until Monday. Therefore, I don't know if we would be able to make it to Dallas. I finally pulled the trigger and cancelled. If we couldn't make it then we would have just lost $200.00. I am hoping that the weather isn't as bad and we might be able to just call on Saturday and still get a room if the roads are clear. If not, I already went to the store and stocked up on snacks and activities for us to do in case we are iced in over the weekend.
