Solitude

Well folks, the Cargill family went on their annual ski trip last week, and apparently we brought the cold weather back with us from Utah.  Last year we went to Winter Park in Colorado.  This year we wanted to go some place we have never been.  In fact, I think every year we are going to try a "new" place and then on our ten year anniversary go to Lake Tahoe where we were married.  Awe!!!!!  That was totally Derek's idea.

I am also the worse at taking pictures.  In fact, I took a total of three pictures and a video of Payton going down the mountain.  I am awful, I know.  However, we were too busy just having fun and living in the moment to actually stop and take pictures.  Here's a few quick hits of my observations of Solitude, Utah.

1.  We flew into Salt Lake City and it was tiny.  I am used to the capital and the most populated city within a state to be big.  Nope.

2.  The Mormon Temple area is really pretty.

3.  Salt Lake is very clean.

4.  Solitude ski resort had great snow and slopes (according to Derek).

5.  People that go skiing in Utah are really die hard skiers.

6.  The "village" we stayed in didn't have much of anything.  It did have an ice skating area and a few shops, but if you wanted to eat anything reasonably priced you had to go down the mountain.

7.  To go down the mountain consisted of 12 miles of scary turns with no guardrails.

8.  The alcohol content in beer in Utah is 3.2%, and you pay $6.00 a beer.  Ouch!!

9.  Payton loved ski school and is really getting the hang of it.

10.  We happened to book our trip on the same weekend as Sundance Film Festival.

11.  Derek skied three days, Payton was in ski school for two, and I skied one day.

12.  On our last full day there, Derek skied at Brighton and Payton and I went to the recreational center and went swimming.

13.  One night and morning we didn't have hot water in the condo.  I was a little pissed to say the least.  Although they fixed the problem, I was a little put off by the night guy in condo that I called to inform him about the problem attitude given the situation.  I can appreciate a slower pace of of life, BUT when we are paying good money for a condo I expect hot water and I expect for you to get off your BUTT and do something about it.

All and all it was a great trip.  Now back to the real world.
