Rant of the Day

Dear Southwest Airlines:

Please explain this to me. I am trying to book airfare for my daughter and myself to go to Amarillo for my niece's forth birthday in June. My daughter will be 6 months old at the time of the trip. I was just planning on purchasing a ticket for myself, since your airline allows children under two to fly for free. However, I noticed on your web site you have an infant fare that parents can purchase for a discounted air ticket. Since my airfare was $49.00 each way, I was thinking I would call and inquire about your infant fare. Since it was supposed to be cheaper, I thought if I could get a round trip ticket for my infant child for around $40.00 total it would be worth it to have the extra room on the plane. To my utter shock, your infant fare discounted rate was $69 each way on the flights I had booked. WHAT?????? It cost a total of $20.00 MORE each way for a six month old to travel than an adult on your airline?

I would suggest that you refrain from advertising your infant rate as a "discounted" rate because it is clearly not.

Thank you.
